11,000 people united after a merger.

A global events and data business, combining two organisations into one after a major acquisition.

What was in the way

After acquiring a major competitor, the business had to combine two global organisations and align 11,000 employees behind one purpose and one set of values, while delivering the deal's promised cost and revenue synergies and returns within three years.

What we did

We assessed the cultures of both businesses separately, 40 executive interviews, 14 focus groups with around 150 people, and an intranet survey of 1,876 colleagues that produced roughly 14,000 comments, then reported ten strategic imperatives to position the combined organisation for growth. We facilitated design workshops across the divisions to set a shared purpose and the values that would drive sustainable commercial outcomes.

What changed

The work produced a new company "constitution", setting out the combined organisation's guiding principles, customer proposition, personality and purpose. It is now used to align working practices across all 11,000 employees as the two businesses combine.
